Snapshot Policies

Snapshot Policies means that snapshots are created periodically for a given drive by setting a snapshot policy.

Snapshot Policies is to create snapshots of specified disks periodically by setting a snapshot policy. It is recommended to create Snapshot Policies for core business and data class business to enhance data protection. Currently, it only supports setting automatic snapshot policies for disks on OneCloud , Alibaba Cloud, and Tencent Cloud platforms.

Source

  • Create an snapshot policy on the cloud management platform.
  • Synchronize the snapshot policy on the public cloud platform, and a cache record will be generated at the same time.

Automatic snapshot quota on each platform is as follows

  • The quota for auto snapshots (snapshots created via an snapshot policy) is 7 per drive on the OneCloud platform, and the earliest auto snapshot created will be automatically deleted when the quota is exceeded.
  • The automatic snapshot quota for each disk on Alibaba Cloud is based on Alibaba Cloud’s official website, and the earliest created automatic snapshot will be automatically deleted when the quota is exceeded.
  • The automatic snapshot quota for each disk on Tencent Cloud platform is based on the Tencent Cloud official website, and the Snapshot Policies will not be executed when the quota is exceeded.

Entry: In the cloud management platform, click the top left corner of navigation menu, and click “Compute/Storage/Snapshot Policies” menu item in the left menu bar that pops up to enter the Snapshot Policies page.

Create Snapshot Policies

This function is used to create Snapshot Policies. The snapshot policy created on Cloud Management Platform will be synchronized to Alibaba Cloud or Tencent Cloud Platform when it is associated with a disk on Alibaba Cloud or Tencent Cloud Platform.

  1. Click the “Create” button at the top of the list to bring up the Create Policy dialog box.
  2. Set the following parameters.

    • Backup time: Select the point in time to set the backup. Select one or more points in time between 00:00 and 23:00. Since creating snapshots can temporarily degrade storage IO performance with brief momentary slowdowns, it is recommended that backup time points avoid peak business hours.
    • Retention time: Includes custom retention length and permanent retention.
      • Custom retention time: Snapshots will be automatically deleted after the retention days are exceeded, and the default retention time is 7 days.
      • Permanent retention: If set to permanent retention, the snapshot will not be deleted. However, when the automatic snapshot exceeds the quota, the earliest created automatic snapshot will be automatically deleted on OneCloud platform and Alibaba Cloud platform, and the Snapshot Policies on Tencent Cloud platform will not take effect.
  3. Click the “OK” button to create the automatic snapshot.
